DESCRIPTION
Bento (Lunch box) is a milestone in the traditional cuisine in Japan.  It is said that Hanakago (Flower Box) Bento originally comes from Kyoto.  Hanakago style is
probably one of the cutest Bento boxes and the most popular among women.
Traditionally, the lunch meal was wrapped into bamboo sheath so that there will be constant ventilation while keeping it in a sterile environment (bamboo leaves have antibacterial properties).

Japanese lunches mainly consists of simple rice shaped in triangles with Ume-boshi (plum).  Japanese rice, especially the Japonica variety, keeps the taste even when it becomes cool.

Bento box is also associated to the Ohanami (the famous Cherry Blossom Festival) where people celebrate this amazing event with a picnic together with friends and family.

Even to this day, the mothers prepares a lunch box for her family.  It reminds the husband of his beloved wife and creates a sort of exciting moment every morning for when the husband gets to ask, "What is inside today!?”

A typical bento box consists of: Rice, fish or meat, eggs, vegetables, pickled foods, and sometimes fruit.  It is a very balanced meal!
The food is usually in bitesize form and tightly packed into a small box (nento box), so it is very easy to carry around!
