Passata Rustica
With three generations of tomato expertise, we harvest our sun-ripened tomatoes from our Organic farm in Pontinia, Italy. Mr Organic Passata is made from our tomatoes, packed within hours of harvest to preserve their sweet flavour & freshness, free from added sugars or salt. With no added sugar or salt, organic tomatoes are the way to go, always grown without the heavy use of pesticides.
Storage
Once opened, keep refrigerated and use within 3 days.
Passata vs. Passata Rustica – Which One Is Right for Your Dish
Passata
- Smooth & Sieved: Made from strained tomatoes, resulting in a smooth, velvety texture.
- No Seeds or Skin: The tomatoes are puréed and filtered to remove seeds and skin.
- Common Uses: Ideal for sauces, soups, and dishes where a smooth consistency is desired (e.g., marinara, pizza sauce).
Passata Rustica ("Rustic" Passata)
- Coarse & Chunky: Less finely sieved, so it retains small bits of tomato flesh, seeds, and sometimes skin.
- More Textured: Has a thicker, slightly grainy consistency compared to regular passata.
- Common Uses: Great for rustic dishes like stews, ragù, or recipes where a heartier tomato presence is preferred.
Which One to Use?
- Choose Passata for smooth sauces.
- Choose Passata Rustica for a more homemade, textured feel.
Both are uncooked (just crushed tomatoes) and usually contain nothing but tomatoes and sometimes salt, making them a fresher alternative to canned tomato sauce.
