According to mythology, the creator and founder of athleticism and the Olympic games were Idaios Hercules, who was the first man to plant an olive tree in Olympia. The Cretan Kouritis or Idaios Hercules had bought the Olive tree from the North or from Crete. Idaios Hercules had four brothers, Paionaio, Epimidi, Iaso and Ida. One day, the eldest brother went to Olympia to run. The was the first race ever in the world! To honour the winner, Hercules made a wreath from the Olive tree he had planted and placed it on the winners head. The became a tradition and from then on winners of the Olympic games were awarded the olive wreath. This was the only trophy (ATHLON) awarded the winners of the game. The wreath was made from the tree Kotinos (Olive tree). The Kotinos was established as the trophy of the Olympic games by Ifito following the anointment of the medium of Delphi.
