Did you know that there cremini mushrooms (also spelled cremini), white button mushrooms, brown button mushrooms and portobello mushrooms are all the same type of mushrooms called Agaricus bisporus?
The only difference is the time that they are harvested. Button mushrooms, which are white, are the youngest. Cremini mushrooms (or brown button mushrooms) are aged white button mushrooms and portobellos are the brown and much larger version of older cremini mushrooms. Hence the creminis are sometimes labeled as “baby bellos".
Portobello mushrooms are great baked in the oven, sauteed, made into soups or grilled. Many plant-based burgers are made with portobello mushrooms due to its 'meaty' texture.
How to Store Portobello Mushrooms
Place the cut and washed mushrooms in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. If your mushrooms are uncut and unwashed, you can store them in a breathable paper bag in the refrigerator up to 1 week as well.
