What is Rye Bread?
Rye is heavier and darker than most other flours, producing a denser dark bread with hints of earthy flavours, similar to pumpernickel. Some 100-percent rye bread takes on a thick, sticky consistency due to the fact that rye has less gluten than all-purpose or whole wheat flour and absorbs eight times its weight in water.
Why it’s special:
We use a rye sourdough starter to make this bread with no added dry yeast. It is 100% whole rye-- no other flour is used in this bread. Enjoy the rich and hearty flavors!
How to eat it:
If freshly baked, enjoy it as is. Rye bread can last a long time without any preservatives due to the natural occurring acids in the bread. However, to enjoy the best texture, we recommend to slice and freeze if you are not going to consume it within 2 days from delivery. By toasting the frozen slice, you can enjoy it as if it were (almost) freshly baked!
